lyrics

Storm Water

Storm water rushing through
going to ground and away from you
Does it really mean nothing
Best tell your dreams to the water
It makes you think that it’s all too late
Twilight crawling up from underneath
A tree on the banks of the river
breaks its deep silence
creaking branches given life and easily taken away

Stormwater washing the earth
uncovering things better left forgotten
In the evening light
You can hear the crying of a child
Begging for forgiveness
Or is it some exotic bird headed home to its nest
When you hear the whippoorwill
You know somebody’s going to die

Indoors listening to the storm
Rain hissing in the mud all around
A yellow dog sheltering in the barn
She couldn’t find her way home
Everything had changed with the storm
Signposts washed away with the road
She’ll be uncovered
next time storm waters come rushing through
